Sight For Kids
Sight for Kids, has for years been one of the club's most popular events. Last year the club paid for exams and glasses for over 120 local elementary students, plus one eye surgery and one set of contact lenses.
The Sight for Kids event brings the local community together to promote preventative eye care and provide financial assistance to children and young adults who are unable to afford proper eye care.

The club has joined Lions Clubs International in supporting initiatives for sight and hearing. Please feel welcome to lend your support the event.

12th Annual Sight For Kids Wine Tasting and Dinner Event on March 8, 2008 a great success!!

More than 400 people enjoyed the recent wine tasting and dinner event sponsored by the Whittier Host Lions Club. It was held Saturday, March 8th in the Whittier Community Center.

Rich Casford, co-chairman for the event, would like to extend a big “thank you” to the Whittier community for supporting this 11th annual “Sight for Kids, Etc” event.

There was a wide variety of wines and delicious food from local restaurants and wineries for folks to sample.
The evening included the auction of more than 100 valuable prizes and several raffles. Auction items included autographed memorabilia, vacations including a three-day ocean cruise, a gourmet dinner for 8, tickets to Lakers, Dodgers, and Angel games, and jewelry from Whittier Jewelry Mart.

Fifteen area restaurants offered their taste-delights during the event, and the Cal High Culinary Arts Academy provided dessert. Fourteen area wineries offered their sparkling beverages to sample. Participating food vendors were Ambrose Pizza, Cielito Lindo, Crepes & Grapes, Dattilo’s, El Camino Mexican Grill, Fire House Grill, Fronteras Mexican Grill, Marie Callender’s, New Canton, Olive Garden, Phlight Restaurant, Ristorante Barilla, Steve’s BBQ, Sushi Max and The 6740. And participating suppliers of adult beverages were 14 Hands, Beringer, Buena Vista, Chateau St. Jean, Chateau St. Michelle, Coppola Bianco, Covey Run, Franciscan, Geyser Peak, Petroncelli Wines, Red Diamond, Robert Mondavi, Toasted Head, Wild Horse and Triangle Distributing (Budweiser).

Casford termed the event a “great success,” and thanked the dozens of Lions who helped, especially co-chairman Al Campano. Proceeds will enable the club to increase its support for children's sight conservation and other deserving community service programs.

Whittier Host Lions is an all volunteer organization - all funds raised at the event are being directed back into the community. The club appreciates the Whittier community's support for this annual event. Next year's event is scheduled for Saturday March 28, 2009.
