| Message from Our President
|
Welcome to the Whittier Host Lions web site! Since 1922, when we were chartered, we have provided people in our community an opportunity to give something back to our community. While we are known for our focus on sight and hearing assistance, we also provide resources in other ways to improve our community. In the past five years, in addition to providing free eye examinations and eyeglasses to hundreds of Whittier area school age children, Whittier Host Lions have donated over $500,000 back into our community including major donations to the Boy's & Girl's Club of Whittier, YMCA Camp Arbolado, Oralingua School, and the Pediatrics Unit at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. We have also provided many hours of volunteer support. In addition, we sponsored a Leo's club at Whittier High School where over 65 High School students can volunteer and develop valuable leadership skills.
Please check out our outstanding weekly Main Lion [link] to keep up to date on our activities - just click on Main Lion on the menu on the left border. We are part of Lions International, the largest service club in the world with more than 46,000 clubs in 194 countries and nearly 1.4 million members.
I would like to extend a warm invitation to anyone who would like to learn more about Lionism and the good work that we do. We have welcomed over 20 new Lions into our club this past year! If you would like to contact me, please click on my name on the link above and leave me a message.
Our mission in Whittier Host Lions and Lions International has never wavered: "We Serve."
Again, thank you for visiting our site. We hope you find the information helpful.
Sincerely,
Drew Sones
President, 2008-2009

 | Whittier Host Lions Project at Oralingua School highlighted in Whittier Daily News - October 22, 2008 Click here for web link |
Please click on the web link to read the article in the Whittier Daily News highlighting the new Infant Hearing Evaluation Center made possible by the volunteer efforts of Whittier Host Lions Club.
Last year the Lions updated and improved the playground, replacing the awnings, repairing the swings, installing sponge flooring instead of sand and built a "Oralingua Speedway" cement tricycle racetrack.
This year about 60 Lions focused on rebuilding a 1,500-square-foot house at the nonprofit school, 7056 S. Washington Ave. They donated about $50,000 to convert the house into an infant and family hearing center, where infants will be brought and tested for hearing impairment. The house got new electrical wiring, new heating and air conditioning, new paint, flooring and plaster.
